Intelligent Luxury Living Room with Bespoke Media Wall
Home Cinema
This living room renovation was designed to transform an underperforming family space into a warm, layered and luxurious environment centred around a bespoke media wall.
The client wanted more than a simple television installation. Their vision was to create a refined entertaining space where lighting, materials, technology and architecture worked together seamlessly.
The result is a beautifully balanced room where intelligent lighting, concealed technology and carefully chosen finishes elevate the entire atmosphere.
The Brief
The homeowner wanted a complete transformation of the existing living room, with a focus on creating a luxurious yet comfortable space for everyday living and entertaining.
Central to the design was a bespoke media wall that would house the television and audio system while concealing all electronic components. The design also needed to showcase premium materials and finishes, creating a feature that would become a focal point of the room.
Lighting was a key priority. The client wanted a layered lighting scheme that could adapt to different moods throughout the day, alongside automated control of natural light through motorised window treatments.
Design Challenges
The existing room presented several design constraints that needed to be addressed before the new concept could be realised.
Radiators and a centrally positioned door interrupted the main wall, limiting the ability to create a cohesive feature wall. The lighting was poorly designed, with downlight placement failing to support the room’s layout or atmosphere.
Acoustically, the space was also challenging. The solid flooring created a hard environment that lacked the warmth and comfort expected from a family living space.
These factors meant the transformation needed to address not only aesthetics, but also spatial layout, lighting design and acoustic balance.
Design & Integration
Potters Home Digital began by producing a detailed lighting design alongside 3D visual concepts, allowing the client to fully visualise the transformation before construction began.
To enable a clean architectural feature wall, the central door was blocked up and the heating system was redesigned with underfloor heating, eliminating the need for wall-mounted radiators. This ensured the overall design could remain uninterrupted.
A bespoke media wall was created using contemporary oak acoustic wall panels, providing both visual warmth and acoustic softening to the room.
Within the recessed display areas, custom-cut stone panels were installed and backlit using LED lighting. The same stone was used for the fireplace, creating a visually cohesive material palette throughout the room.
The layered lighting scheme combines several lighting elements including downlights, indirect LED lighting, integrated LED panels behind the stone, feature spotlights and decorative wall lighting. Together these create a balanced lighting design built around the three key principles of lighting design: task, ambient and feature lighting.
All lighting is controlled by a Lutron system, allowing smooth dimming and scene control through elegant wall keypads finished in champagne to complement the room’s interior palette.
The central television is recessed within the media wall, with all associated equipment concealed within a hidden cupboard below. The client’s existing Sonos surround system was seamlessly integrated into the new design.
To create balanced music throughout the room when entertaining, three pairs of in-ceiling speakers were installed, delivering even and immersive sound across the space.
Motorised roller blinds were installed across the window area, while a concealed curtain track with soft S-fold voile curtains wraps the bay window and side walls, softening the room and enhancing the layered design.
One of the display recesses was further enhanced with a suspended pendant feature, adding another visual focal point within the illuminated stone backdrop.
The Result
The transformation has created a living room that feels warm, inviting and beautifully considered.
Layered lighting allows the atmosphere of the space to change effortlessly throughout the day. With a simple selection of a scene on the keypad, the lighting and window treatments adapt to suit different moments, whether watching television, entertaining guests or creating a relaxed evening environment.
The backlit stone media wall has become a striking centrepiece of the home, delivering both visual impact and architectural harmony.
The result is a living space where technology quietly enhances the experience of the room without ever dominating it.
